Health Education and Promotion (HEP) provides health and wellness education across campus and leads initiatives that encourage, support and foster wellbeing. Through events, workshops and peer education, we help students access the sustainable tools, skills, and knowledge they need to create a personal state of wellness, otherwise known as homeostasis.
The vision of HEP is a RISD community where the cultivation of well-being practices are viewed as keystones to students’ artistic aspirations and success.
HEP offers education, workshops, events and support across the following topics and more:
- General health and eight dimensions of wellness (emotional, social, spiritual, financial, occupational, intellectual, physical and environmental)
- Consent and healthy relationships
- Alcohol and other drugs education
- Sexual education
- LGBTQIA+ education and support
- Nutrition and intuitive eating
- Body positivity and body neutrality
- Stress and stress relief
Students can access 1:1 support through our open office hours or by appointment. You can also make requests for programmatic collaboration via email.

One of the core elements of HEP is the Health and Wellness Ambassadors (HAWA) program. The ambassadors are a cohort of student health educators who work with the HEP coordinator to provide peer-to-peer education on a variety of health-related topics.
Together the HAWAs lead campus events and workshops to share skills and promote practices that increase students’ wellbeing.
