This semester in-person access to the Main Floor Library, Special Collections, Archives or the Visual + Material Resource Center is available by appointment only to RISD community members with an active RISD ID. Please note that users must make separate appointments to visit each library area/collection.
Daily appointment slots, seating capacity and hours are all limited and vary by area of the library. See our COVID remote operations to make an appointment, view collection hours or learn about other virtual services.
Fleet Library currently provides RISD community members with contactless pickup of materials requested from the library’s circulating collection. This service is available Monday–Friday from 10 am–4 pm.
To request an item from the online catalogue, please complete a contactless pickup request form (using either permalinks or full titles and call numbers to indicate requested items) or contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or 401 709–5901 for assistance. You will receive confirmation via email when your items are ready.
Upon confirmation, your items will be packaged and available for pickup inside the Main Library entrance on the first floor of 15 West.
Scans, course reserves and research/class preparation support
The library circulation team is available to scan book sections and articles and to process course reserves. Please fill out a library scan request form for digital scans, using the online catalogue to provide publication information. To reserve course materials, please complete and submit a request for reserve material form.
Staff in Research and Instruction, Special Collections, the Visual and Material Resource Center and the Archives are also available to help community members with research needs and class preparation.

Fleet Library at RISD is a place for inquiry and inspiration, occupying the first and second floors of 15 Westminster Street. With over 100,000 books and periodicals, institutional archives, special collections, artists' books, material samples and picture collection, there is much to explore on site. Fleet Library also provides the RISD community with access to a wide range of digital resources, along with professional expertise to help navigate both online and physical resources for classroom instruction, individual research support and creative work.
