The 2nd Life Exchange is an opportunity for students to up-cycle, repurpose or reuse materials that can inspire, explore creativity, or reduce students’ financial burden while redirecting the material from landfill. It’s a location for donating used but usable art & design materials and/or finding used items that will be useful to what you are currently working on.

How it works

• Visit the 2nd Life Exchange on the 2nd floor of the Design Center for drawing tools, paints, sewing materials and other small tools, sheets of paper, foam, wood and more.
• Give a little, take a little:
  • Please take what you need for projects you are working on today. This will ensure that we keep a robust inventory throughout the semester.
  • Browse the selection and take only as much as you will use — preferably no more than five items at a time.
  • Bring in any usable art supplies that you no longer need.
  • While all items in the store are free, students must still check out with the attendant so that inventory of what is given out is tracked.
  • There is an opportunity to make a risdbucks donation to 2nd Life.

Donation rules

• Donations must be dropped off with an attendant in the Exchange or in designated areas.
• If it is not in good enough condition to give it to a friend, you probably should not donate it.
